    Think it's ok now though...might just need a carbie clean and a tune hopefully, seeing it was overhauled late last year.

    Lesson learned and I think I'll be getting a fire extinguisher for the mk1!

    I ran quad Webber IDA's on a Ford 289 for a while with no filters under a fibreglass bonnet. You want to see real flames?

    Hahaha the further i read on the more i thought oh dear.. inlet backfires cause big flames in that situation!

    you know you drive a mk1 golf when the throttle cable gets stuck on full revs and you are forced to turn the engine off, pull over, and repair it, in the middle of the city!
