You know you drive a mk1 when it's 11:30 at night and you go down to the stable to check the horses have water then spend 30 min looking over the Golf just because you can.
But no really, I like to look distinguished when I step out of the car. People are like, "wonder what he does for living."
I just reply, "your daughter, sir." - some dude on stanceworks
I had fixed half the broken crap but that just meant it was still halfway inoperable

They certainly are Pirellis Cinturato's (think I spelt the second part wrong). they're rare as **** and impossible to find centre caps for... I'm almost going to find a workshop that'll manufactur custom ones with VW logo's or something.. just because I think they look better with caps.
You know you drive a mk1 when the gasket kit you got for it hasn't got a snowballs chance in hell of fitting.
You know you drive a mk1 when you look at fitting bigger brakes from a Seat Ibiza track car and end up buying the whole car so you can take the brakes, and the dash, and the gearbox, and the fuel injection, and whatever else I want.
You're hitting 4k rpm all the way to and from Albury because you couldn't bare to miss VITS

My good mate used to have a 2 door 1.6. He once did a late night Newcastle-Sydney and back run for some personal reason or other, and said after the fact that he was sure on the way home that sitting at 5k rpm would prevent him getting all the way back... But he did
You know you drive a mk1 when you find that cruise groove above 140

You know you drive a Mk1 GLD when a policeman tells you to not worry about locking it and to leave the keys in the ignition too. He said no one would steal it!!
