you pull it apart to find someone has replaced things with parts from another variant that doesn't quite match... (ie petrol hubs and wishbones in a diesel...)

You know you love a MK1 when you put your working and registered MK2 up for sale to buy a non working, unregistered MK1.
Oh the memories... Mine were just about all positive. Mine never left me stranded in the 3 years that I had it.

I've had 6 over the past 28 years and I'm buying my 7th. Not one of them has ever left me stranded. Oh sure they broke down occasionally but they were always able to be fixed and got me home. Even the one that broke it's gearbox had the sense to do it less than 100 metres from home.
