    Talking YES!!! I bought a mk1

Yes thats right guys as the title says I bought a mk1

Its a mk1 cabrio gti. I only have two pics at the moment one being the ebay listing lol.

Anyway basically this is going to be a daily lol, it needs a few things to be done but I shouild hopefully have rego by this weekend

Some background info on the car:

Its a import I think UK import, as the tacho is in miles......Yes thats right I have 89000 miles on this beast lol.

The guy before me imported it and was restoring it for his daughter who was in to volkswagens, she has since bought a beetle and drives that and so he put the car on ebay to sell it.

I originally rang him last thursday and offered him $1500 for the car, he said "Ohh I have put a fair bit of time in to it and I would end the auction right now for $2500" I said fair enough, I'll get back to you (I never rang him again lol)
The bidding ended up last Monday afternoon and I won the bid at $1526 haha!

I picked it up the Friday that passed. I went down with the missus father and brother and we picked it up from Flinders down south from the dudes house. On first inspection she seemed very smooth and a real goer! We put her on the trailer and came back.....

Note to sell never use a Pulsar to pull a trailer with a car on it!!!

We were wheel spinning all the way up the hill at 100kmh lol.

We finally made it back safely and we parked up the car for the nite.

I then attacked it the next morning still on the trailer with a phone call:

Me - Hey Matt, how you going mate?
Loon - Yeah not bad yourself?
Me - Yeah good thanks, quick question, how do you open the bonnet of a mk1?
Loon - LOL its on the passenger side the germans didn't change it over for Oz and UK delivered cars.
Me - Ahh thanks Matt found it only took me 25 mins, have a good one!
Loon - No worries mate cheers.

Well after that I got to some work, I have pics but I left the freakin memory card at home so photos tonight or tomorrow sorry guys lol.

After two days of work on it, we managed to get the car going, apart from it sounding like a lawnmower cause the guy ran out of fuel moving it from his workshop to his place and thats all he had on him

We found a little rust removing the towbar and also on the rear boot seal underneath. We got rid of it all and patched it up, I just don't know where I am going to find that colour lol.

    Good Points
    Engine looks good
Car overall looks pretty straight and rust free apart from the areas I had already pointed out.
    Electrics work.
    New carpet and seats upholstered
    New Roof

    Bad Points
Breaks need a going over spongy as ****!
    Handbrake isn't the best
Got to get rid of the 2 stroke within the engine sounds like a lawnmower
    New tyres
The lights in the dash aren't working I am suspecting either bulbs or a fuse
    Needs rego
Gear shift is a little loose

I have to say a big thanks to Loon for his help to far with some parts I should be getting them today in the arvo!

Yesterday I also ordered a manual and some more parts from GAP

I basically want to make this car my daily without doing hardly anything to it apart from the lowering and some nice 13's or 14's if I can find them lol. My inspiration is really from Doms yellow mk1 original old school looks love it perfect stance and looks awesome!

I will update this thread from time to time just to show the progress on the 1.

    Cheers Steve
