Wiring Diagram

Hey all, just wondering if any of you guys have a wiring diagram, or a link to a wiring diagram, for a mk1? let me know.

You'll have to be a bit more specific than that. I've got about about 5 different workshop manuals covering the mark1's. Each of them have about 4 or different wiring diagrams and none of tham co-respond! If it's a specific question you've got, ask away and see what answers you get! If you can narrow down the specific model a bit I might be able to scan some up for you when I get to work on Monday.

I have a GLD with a MKII K-Jetronic motor which makes the wiring even more interesting!

i need the basic wiring diagram for the wiring to the carb really, just to make sure everything is where its supposed to be, and to connect a few loose wires.

Black wire (15) live with ignition on goes to auto choke, fuel cut-off
Brown wire (31) is earth

If it's carby wiring that's the problem don't forget the earth cable from the carby to the motor. The carby sits on a rubber mount and if you don't earth it you can get all sorts of strange intermitant faults when the current has to find a path back through the accelerator cable or something else . Most of the VWs I've looked at seem to run all the +12v ignition carby connections from the positive side of the coil.

Golf coils are not 12V, Beetles are.

Really? I'm pretty sure the one on my 1600 is a normal 12v coil. Kettering style points and everything. I didn't find any resistors along the path.

My 1800 has electronic ignition so I didn't really consider that. I'm still repairing wiring on that car and haven't gotten as far as the engine bay.

What voltage are golf coils? You've got me curious now, I'll have to make some measurements and read some diagrams.

The cable from the fuse panel to the coil is a resistor. I removed mine when I put the electronic ignition on and replaced it with a copper cable.
