    Yes and No.

Yes you can make them fit, not they wont fit straight on.

They are very aggressive specs! 9" on a mk 1 is quite alot!

    I think you'd need a 195/45 up front (or even a 185/45)

WIth a bit of additional camber a 205 may fit on the rear, but you're probably better off with a 195/45

Rolled arches and some camber are a must! (however the front fitment should be close to but just clear the front strut)

See if you can find some info on Stu's white/carbon 16V as well dude, that was rocking 9inch rears I'm pretty sure, with a lot of guard rolling.
Should give you an idea on the fit you can achieve though. Maybe even PM and ask him what tyres he ran or something. I think they where Falken's from memory, not sure on sizing though.

they were 215/35, and they were also 16's.

Going from 15 to 16's is quite a leap on a mk 1! (IMO)

There we go then haha ^^
Yeah, still same width though, however I realise fitment might be a bit different with the extra height of the wheels..
I'm with you though, bit of a leap! Much prefer 15s. 16 are hard to get sitting right if at all. That said..
I do love that car haha.

From memory the available tyres are:
    165/50
    165/55
    175/50
    185/45
    195/45
    195/50
    and I think 205/45
    205/50.
I think there is also a 155/60 as well, but you'd have to double chec.

Most of these sizes, excepy for a 195/50 are generally pretty obtuse, so I'd imagine you will have dificulty finding them.

Check out tyrestretch.com for some pics of all the stretch, so you can see what you're getting yourself into!
