Will these wheels fit?

Well, apparently alex g has sold his wheels.

Can anyone confirm how people get more dish out of standard wheels (is the welding process described in previous post the correct way)?

best way to do it is to take it too a place that does widened/custom wheels.

The process ( I believe this to be the safest, most proper way) is to machine out the centres and then the centres are welded onto a completely new band. This way you can coose how wide and which offset you want, and you can polish the lips, knowing they'll be in perfect nick!

You can also go from a (for example) 13" centre to a 14" band, If you wanted to roll on a larger diameter.

I dont know any places off the top of my head, but your best bet is to try and find a place like wheelFX (I think that's the place, in sydney though) they do wheel repairs and stuff like that.

I've asked about 4 different wheel shops and they all say the same thing. What they do is they heat the new barrel until it's cherry red while freezing the machined out centre of your original wheels, then basically bring them to the same temperature so that they basically fuse to one another. I've been told welding is just a secondary step which isn't even necessary in the process, but is done for security.

They usually specify the backspacing that you want rather than offset, but most can work that out if you just provide them with an offset that you want.

This can be done to both steel and alloy wheels, but it really depends on the construction/design of the centres.

Edit: Most recommend "Advanced Alloy Wheel Repairs" for those living in Melbourne.

Ok, thanks guys for the clarification. I'll see if I can get the std 13inch wheels to sit on a 14inch band perhaps 7inch wide and see what the costs associated are. I've heard around the ~150-180 is the norm which is ok I guess.

Yea, the heating part, I forgot about that.

I thikn with the bands, what they do is join a 13" band to a 14" band and then pop the centres in. I'm not exactly sure, but I do believe it's possible and this (or something similar) is the method to do such

I'm just thinking, with a 13inch center and 14inch band, where does that other inch get made up? Surely the band isnt half an inch thick!

I'll enquirer tomorrow about it though.,...

I think the difference is is with the lips. the internal diameter of the 14" band is less than the lip of the 14" inch band. ie. the lips is 14" dia,. whereas the internal dia., of the band will be less. not sure exactly, but its something to that effect.

If you're going to have them made just pick a 14" or 15" centre you like.

Remember offset is no longer an issue as they're set up to order.

Don't bother with the 13" golf one, they're pretty ugly IMO.

There's a few cars with 4 x 100 pcd and the right centre bore.

We have a beige 5-dpor so if we go down this route, we'll powder coat it black and keep the centers chrome. Should look pretty good with whitewalls. Thing is, if its gonna cost ~800 to do, we may aswell spend a couple of hunge and get some ATS classics. Still weighing options, but thanks for suggestions

you can find ATS classics in australia??? as far as I know, good luck with that! I thikn those widened steelies, esp in that pic are good as, that car is an inspiration to me! I think though, maybe silver powder coating with chrome centre caps, imo will work well on the beige.

Just out of curiosity, where abouts in melbourne are you?
