    Widened steelies..

    Hey all. Been a while!

Basically - I don't understand why but I cannot find any wheels I like more than widened steelies.. I don't just WANT them... I need them.

But I don't really know anything about them? How are they made? Are they dangerous? Where will I find them and how much will I expect to pay for them?

Is it better to use a non- mk1 steel wheel to begin with if getting them made? Should I get mk2 steelies and do it with them?

Please let me know what you know..

    Cheers kids

I would suggest that you contact someone like Neale Wheels and ask them to make some for you. The can source you new wheels and widen them, they have heaps laying about.

Other than them, you need to ask about I am sure there is a wheel repair/engineering firm in Launceston that would take it on.

eastern wheels works in lilydale quoted me ~$115/wheel to desired offset and width with me supplying wheels. thats cutting and rebanding the wheel.

Best and neatest way is to get new steel bands/hoops (wheels with no centres) from someone like ROH and have centres unstitched and welded in at your deisired offset. I have had quotes from ~$80-200 per wheel to have this done. Hardest part is getting them balanced properly, other wise any donkey with a welder could do it for you (not suggested!)

Spoke to our local wheel guru here in launy and he says you can't get 13" widened bands anymore?!? And suggested I go to 14".. He quoted $80 per wheel but now I gotta find some good 14" steelies.. I think mk2's came with them stock??

He also mentioned it would depend on the true diameter on the wheel centers.. Apparently they can vary even tho they are on 14" bands - depending on brand - country of origin etc..

    Thoughts?
