A whiff of what's cooking in the kitchen - 'Project Carbon'...

This is my dream Mk1. I'll be putting consistent updates here over the coming weeks while I finish this off. I finish my current job in 3 and a 1/2 weeks, then have 6 weeks to attend to all the details before I'm back at work.

The wheels are one-off PLS Evolution from France. They have magnesium centres with matte, wrinkle-effect red enamel for something totally different. All held together with titanium bolts, they're amazingly light. 16x8" ET22 front, 16x9" ET15 rear, 195/40/16 and 215/35/16 Hankooks, which stretch over really nicely. Still waiting for my machinist to finish the centre caps.

I'll post up the full spec of the car when I have time

Most of the pics I have are just of parts and small details so I'll gradually start to shrink and compile these in the coming weeks. I'm having some issues with getting the front end bolted back together: I loaded up the strut towers with sealant so now the front camber plates don't sit flat (they're a different shape to an older set I used as a template), meaning I have to grind the sealer back and re-do it. I could just whack it together, but the whole point of delaying this project has been to get things 110%, so I'm sticking to the game plan. As soon as this is sorted, I'll wheel the car out of the garage to get a proper pic of the stance etc. Will be the first time it's seen full daylight in a long time.

At the moment, I have the interior out and doors off just to make sure I don't scratch or damage anything, so this stuff all has to go back on - really only a full day's work, though. The main time left will be spent ironing out engine/suspension/brake problems, which will no doubt crop up! I managed to track down an ultra rare Autocavan brake linkage too, so I'm just in the process of rebuilding this - all the sort of jobs that take way longer than they should :s
