Talking Wheels and suspension for MK1

    Hey everyone!
I have recently purchased a mk1 and am curious as to what the pcd and offset are for the 1977 mk1 gls???
Im keen to get some nice phat wheels under it and slam it nice and low (whilst keeping it legal of course)
I have found some 13 inch hot wires but i dont think they will be wide enough!

To help me get some ideas can people please post up some combinations of suspension and wheels so i can get some ideas on what will and wont fit the mk1! (for example, maximum width tyre without flaring too much of the guards, what size rim you think, 13,14,15,16 etc)
Will post some pics and details of the golf in a seperate thread as soon as it arrives!!!
Its a mustard yellow factory paintjob!
    We are in Queensland!

    Regards,

    from experience....

15's are the best and biggest wheels you can use while slamming it on its cheeks.... also tyre selection is also very important, if you wanna keep it under the guards, offsets should be no lower than ET28... once you get to ET25...20 ect you have to start playing around with guards to make the wheels fit, thats IF you do go low enough for them to rub....

i have 15x6.5 ET25 with 165/50 tyres and she sits really low without rubbing anything

Ok so 14s or 15s would be the go looking at that chart
Id love to have some dish and have around the 7inch mark so i can maybe stretch some tyres on?

What suspension combinations should i be looking at to get it low, comfortablish, around the 100mm off the ground mark!

BFYB hottuning coilovers are a good option. they have 120mm of drop, which will get you well below legal limits. they're also 'comfortablish' at a reasonably low height, but if you really want it belly ached, say hello to rice bounce!

Doms car is what i've call comfortablish, it's been lower, and rode much worse..

    Agree with dom

weitecs are pretty sweet tho, they are a little bumpy too tho but are good.
14's would be good with the coilies and some fat rims. I have 13x6.5's and 13x8's on mine with weitecs and they look sweet, but being so low you have problems with clearance and the driveshafts occassionally bumping on the chassis, then you've got to chop or raise it

check em out they are good fun

I paid $500 for my Hottuning coilover, you won't be able to get this price now.
It is the best value for money coilover, Weitec is good of course, but you'll be looking at at least 2x the price of HT.

Weitecs will be 2k plus now with the crusty exchange rate, not sure about rims but i reckon you could pick up some good second hand ones from someone on this forum, worth asking anyway.
have a look on german site for the weitecs too, might be a better price somewhere there
