The problem a lot of people forget when "slamming" their Mk1s is that they overlook clearancing the body above the RHS driveshaft. The driveshaft effectively becomes a new bumpstop!!!
This is one I had in at work last week, hope the owner doesnt mind me showing this pic but it is a warning to others.

I've seen that section boxed a couple times.

The method i would use if I had to [or may have to soon ] is to get some round MS pipe. roughly 2-2.5" dia.
cut the section from the rail, and use a half section of the pipe to join up the sections of the rail.

It's hard to describe without pics, but I hope this give a rough idea. I've never done it personally, but I like the theory

sorry to hijack but... what are the other options for achieving the lowest legal ride height without coilovers, custom springs and shocks? the attractiveness of coilovers for me is the height adjustment but really i'd just want to be low n slow not a high performing suspension setup.

what suspension are you running SpeciP3?

mate, you can get cheap coilovers for about as much as it would cost for shocks and springs and you can have it whatever height you want! all for about $800

hottuning aren't what I'd regard as a 'high-performance' suspension set up. [ie not a track based suspension] it' is, imo atleast, a street based setup.

They give you upto 120mm of drop, which is about as much as most people want, [in fact heaps more than most people want] & are a stupidly easy option. More expensive would be a air bag setup. Around 8-10K for a custom setup, but you'll be able to park it on the deck.

all depends on what you want. The hottuning coils are a goood start I reckon. Hope this helps.
