What the.... oops
I had one of those moments today...
After bragging at work about how much fun and how reliable the manky little Mk1 is, she left me stranded on the side of the road while on my way home.
The problem?
The fuel pump had come loose and was hanging off the engine - What the???
(I found this after a 20 min of swearing and cursing - and luckily the bolts were still in the holes)
So she's all good now, and trucking along nicely - just like before. Tomorrow I will clean off all the oil that was sprayed all over the engine and under the bonnet.
Has this happened to anyone else? (I expect that this is a rare thing?)
Just thought I might share...

That's a strange one for sure.
All sort's of thing's can eventually work there way loose from all the vibration.
I just recently had my gearbox mounting bolt's work there way loose, which came as a BIG suprise.
I've had driveshaft/c.v. joint bolt's work there way loose too!
Glad it was a fast, easy fix. Apart from having to clean off the oil.
I'm going through that myself with gearbox oil streaked under the whole car's floor pan.

hahaha old cars!!!!
My last MKI had a 2L with a sidedraft webber. I was just about to hit the main drag to work when my car started to run crap whenever I slowed down and would stop if I didnt throttle it. But it ran good when on the gas.
I got the car to work, didnt wanna stop and discover I couldnt get moving again, popped the bonnet, and all the nuts holding the carb to the manifold were gone!!! All that was holding the carb up was the throttle cable when I got on the gas!!! hahaha
