I fixed the radio today....well when I say fixed I rewired. I also spent some time trying to fix my biggest problem.....how to get my car to the USA and thinking about how much my Golf would love racing around in a cold North America winter!

Holy water? Sounds like you need some stop-leak! haha.

Picked up some new bumpers and a fresh engine with a really good injector pump and no bent inlet valves today..

Tomorrow the GLD will be purring again (I hope!!).

I'll get it off to you one day, mate! haha.

The engine would have been hard to find if I didn't know Aydan (gldgti), that's for sure.

We'll have to organise a Mk1 meet soon I think. Would be good. Not a cruise. Something more social like a BBQ.

Today with the help of a mate I finally for the first time since I bought it, Heard my Cabriolet burrt to life. Took a big breaker bar and a full can of crc but we got it. It seems the top end was rusted something to do with the valves. They are free for now. So tomorrow's job is to remove the Carby and take it to Carb'n'Gas at Woolloongabba so they can restore it to its former glory. And remove the fuel tank, clean the lines and re-insert the tank, oh and pulled out the filter from the airbox. OMG it was putrid! Mouldy dirty and home to some spiders, well it used to be until they were introduced to my little friend Moretien.

Maybe one of you could assist me and help me determine the capacity of my engine? Its an 8v but thats all I know. None of the paperwork I have tells me whether its a 1.6 1.8 or 2.0? Did they bring out a 2.0L in the MK1's?
Also I spotted this perfect conditioned MK1 swallow tail sitting in someones front yard and thinking of making an offer. Its behind a 6 ft fence and some information was passed to me about its wherabouts and I snuck in a look! Looks to be in Ok nick from what I could see, What is a un-restored swallow-tail worth approx?

Engine code is located on the front of the block. RHS, at the top when you are looking at it from the front of the bay. That will tell you what you have.

Mk1 swallowtails can be worth heaps or nothing. I scored one for $200, complete (almost- was missing the dizzy). Looked like **** but turned out to be a real minter.

If it's a swallowtail, it's worth trying to get hold of. Although be warned, many things on them are different in their own slight, unique way. A lot of stuff is the same, though.

Get some pics of it and see if they want to sell it. See what they want for it.
