Thread: What did you fix/replace on your Mk1 today?

  1. #781

Spent the WHOLE day sanding and prepping around the boot to get rid of the surface rust! and decided to rip off the headlining and remove the soundproofing... will be ordering a replacement soon..

after all the hard work i busted a coolant hose driving in town, thank goodness for RAA!

Does anyone know what colour carpet matches a cream interior?

    I vote brown.

I forgot to mention that I met a dude and his wife who have a Mk1 diesel (currently unregistered) and a Mk1 Cabby while I was getting a wheel alignment. Nice people. I should have given old mate my card.. The car might have been for sale given the right speel..

gave the golf a front seat transplant this evening with seats peter jones gave me, ended up the seats needed a triple bypass because the rail width in the car was about 30mm wider than the seat bases. So i skinned them both and swapped bases.
Driving the coal. Low and rattly.

Today I installed the front sway bar on the GTI
The drivers side bottom clip was bent.
So I heated it up red hot and manipulated it into the right shape again
Man I love the sound when you dip hot metal into water

Hahaha, cheers dude. All stopping at the moment for the next 2 weeks as we have to get the Dragster and trailer ready to ship out to the states!

So that means the trailer has to fit in a 20ft container..

Fun fun. Got to plasma cut, drill, grind, angle grind and weld all day today.

Removed the 20-30 year old crappy purple tint today. This was something I have been planning and dreading for a while and I was pleasantly surprised when it peeled off fairly easily. I thought I was home and hosed until it came time to clean off the horrific adhesive gunk. nearly 1 litre of acetone later, and hands stripped of all moisture they came up pretty good. I never want to go through that again...

I guess you don't use acetone a great deal if ever
But I learnt from reading that acetone goes into the system of your body and destroys your organs
You probably need to be a surfboard shaper from the 70s to be concerned about this tho
