Yea I ended up buying it. There's a good car under there somewhere and I'm determined to find it!

btw, it's Jarred. spelt with an 'e'. as it says in my user name. thanks.

EDIT: what central locking kit have you got?

I've decided to get one for my mk 1, ones off ebay normally go for about $50 odd bucks.

    Jarred,
How hard was it to fit the central locking to the Mk1?
Which kit did you end up getting if you don't mind me asking...

    Cheers
    Alex

I got the one from repco, 60 bucks on special. pretty sure they're the same as the kits off ebay.

install is pretty straight forward, just a little fiddly trying to get to some of the bits, and requires a bit of out of the box thinking sometimes.

I had to (well I did) remove my front seats to hide the wiring under the carpet. In the end I could only get 1 clicker to work (not both) and there kit was lacking a few screws, but apart from that, seems pretty good so far. Lack of instructions made it a little difficult to get it to work, but I think I got it in the end. took me about 4 hours. That included alot of fiddling around including swapping bits from other cars. now that I know how to do it, probably about 3 hours, 2hrs for a 2 door.

Don't know if it was worth it yet, cause I havn't driven it yet, but I'm pretty sure it was!

Took it in for a service and for a few other things including having the brakes relined, tie-rod replaced, and wheel bearing looked at/fixed. Hope it's not gonna involve too many $$$

    INVESTIGATION: Clunking.
FINDING: 2 of 3 exhaust hangers missing.
CONCLUSION: New exhaust hangers are made from playdough.
