i had hottunings. i found them to be good handling wise, on the limit, and on a good surface. for more general situations, rough roads etc, the old suspension is much better. the hottunings springs are far too hard to provide good road holding on a rough surface with so little weight in the mk1. i considered getting some softer springs made up for the coilovers, but i need a set of coils for the racecar, and the suspension setup i have now works so well in the road car that i can live without the super-low looks.

Topped up the oil, not such a big deal. But I spilled a bit as usual (damn stupid oil bottles). So on the way home later it started smelling like a lawn mower and smoking under the bonnet. Pulled over and had to clean the oil off the hot exhaust manifold Had to stop again after a few minutes cos I could see smoke coming from under the bonnet

Resealed rocker cover hoping that is the only leaking point (wishful thinking I reckon).

made a 'weighted' shift rod. pity my bushes are buggered though.

re did the camber settings, but somehow managed to do something wrong and now am getting some really bad vibrations. probably the alignment being way off!

Got in and drove it yesterday, started first go like usual it ticked over to 85,000km last weekend.

Massive cloud of smoke on startup, think valve stem seals might be gone? only does it on cold startup.

I grinded the crap out of my brake calipers to fit my Riken wheels (with 15mm H&R spacers). I also started getting the heron motor ready to put onto the engine stand. Couple of other bits and bobs too.

put some bushes in the vertical shift linkage off the steering rack. it's amazing what difference actually having these bushes makes!
