All done, ended up undoing steering column shaft as the bush at the top wasn't going anywhere fast.

thinking its a problem with the actual selector within the box, but dont really want to fork out a ton of money for a mechanic to tell me i need a new gearbox

Poured water out of fusebox, replaced blown fuses, fitted chrome trim to windscreen seal to stop that leak.

    My thumbs hurt.

It's strangely accessible, I guess VW thought "hey, in ~30 years time, these things are going to be ****ed, so lets make them easy to get at".

Today I have mostly been procrastinating, then dismantling stuff, then swearing, then calling for assistance...

Fuel pump was not the source of my woes, as it turns out. On the plus side didn't manage to cover myself in petrol, however the engine bay was given a good *ahem* clean while checking the pressure...

Followed it all up by managing to quite convincingly almost poo myself while test driving. The sluggishness in first gear and up to 2500rpm is no more. Must behave myself even more now...
There is no Golf in my life. This is unacceptable...
