I'm not sure what it's 'meant' to be, but I had a 550CCA champion on my old GLD. Never gave me trouble, started everytime!
Hi folks, have been having some trouble starting the golf lately - it will glow and crank over, but cranks very slowly and it will just continue to crank without firing until the battery runs dead. When jump starting, the car cranks quicker and starts almost instantly, so I've deuced that the battery is either dying or under capacity.
On my older benz diesels the batteries were 4x4/truck sized, whereas the battery currently in there is a fairly small/'normal' sized battery rated at 400CCA.
Will try cleaning battery terminals and the starter/solenoid connections to see if that makes any difference, but pretty sure I'm going to need a new battery.
So what CCA rating should the battery for a GLD be?
Thanks in advance!

When on industrial worksites, the ****heads turn the diesel utes over in gear without the clutch, make the starter motor get them rolling with the low compression.
