Wet Cab - Console removal required

The 1st day of winter I left the Golf outside facing uphill. This is not usually a problem even when it rains, however it was the heaviest rain fall for the last couple of years.

I was not aware the rain tray drains were blocked so water flowed into the cabin through the fresh air vent..flooding the interior with 5cm of water.

Removal of the seats and rear carpet was straight forward and are now drying. But I can't work out how to remove the front centre console to release the front carpet. I have removed the five screws but it's stuck under the knee bar. The lower parts of the console have two metal tie rods held by black plastic buttons. Do I remove these or remove the knee bar ?

Remove the screw from the front, then a couple of screws from the sides, the strenghtening bars can stay on the centre console. Then undo two bolts feom one side of the knee bar, so it lifts slightly, then the console should come out witha bit of jiggery pokery. The knee bar bolts are up inside the footwell by the lever for the bonnet release.

Its a bit of a pain, but persevere mate it will come out

    Thanks Ben

It was quite easy to remove the knee bar. Disconect battery, remove two screws holding the bonnet release, remove screw holding fuse panel and lift the box to the side. This now gives access to the two nuts and two bolts. Do the same on the right hand side and the bar lifts out.

    20 years of dirty

    Now drying
