Jumped in the mk1 the other day, got 50mtrs down the road and a horrible squeak started comming from the front end. Jacked it up trying to find it. Sounds like its comming from the diff where the CV bolts to the housing, Also found out that the wheel bearing is shot on that side too.
The noise is like rubbers with some steel thrown in squeaking really bad. It only happens when the wheels are in motion and heaps louder when there is weight on the wheel.
Not knowing too much about FWD drivetrains, could this be a bearing in the inner CV joint?
I though i would ask the guru's before i started pulling everything apart.
Thanks.

mmm soundsa bit wierd to me actually mate - if you say the wheel bearing is shot, do that first before you go chasing anything else.
