    Talking Weird fuel problem,,,

    Gday all,,,

Finally took old pierburg out and got Jamie's weber, BUT, still got the same weird problem - sucking air from the fuel intake before the air cleaner (I can see the bubbles coming in), gets worse under load and stalls.

Setup was for pierburg was; tank-filter(new one)-pump-carby (with a return back to tank just after pump, no return from carby with peirburg). Now I have weber setup is; tank-filter-pump-carby (with return to tank from carby) but I still get the bubbles coming from the tank into filter.

I found that when I blocked off fuel return the air stopped and car ran fine. Now trying different setups, I reduced the return fuel line size, hleped a bit but still air. Next I redirected the fuel return from carby back to the fuel into carby just after the pump (works fine).. Now considering putting a T junction into the fuel line back to the tank, not sure if it will work though, keep you posted...

    Any ideas?

Cant remember but I think Jamie mentioned he never had a return as had it set up for rally / go fast.....

Great to be back on road though, adaptor plate was a bugger to find, ended up welding an extra bit onto another to re-wrout the water, seems fine

I crimped the return line, when i got that carby it didn't have the return (and it was off a golf) but the plug fell out, so i thought may as well put in a return. Has it made a big difference to the car? Also you can get washable filters for them as well.

Hows the rally car going Jamie?

Washable filter sounds good, who sells them?

Carby does makes a difference, much quicker, idle better, still needs a bit of work but happy for the moment,

I still have return linked back to just after the pump (between pump and carby), tried putting T junction in and got bubbles again, guessing its a prob with my car (not carby related), maybe air sucking in from somewhere - distributor etc? buggered if I know at moment but cant put return in till I find the leak. Otherwise I'm guessing its an issue in the tank, but if thats the case it can wait till I get some time,,

Haven't touched the rally car for ages, uni has been crazy, hopefully get some paint on it at the end of the year ready for next year. I pretty sure finer filter make 1, and the agents are ARB 4x4. They give you new clamps and it is about 1.5x the height of the current 1.

What carby is Grant putting on my old car?
