UPDATE: Been working on the car this afternoon

Started pulling the engine bay apart, will be pulling the engine out next weekend.

All the looms are out of the car, was kind of worried about it being a nightmare of a job but it was ok. Just tagged everything up so its easy when it goes back in.

Ready to start cleaning up the floors and sort out the rust, should also have access to a welder next weekend to.

Tried putting on the wheels i got while the car was on the flat and they dont clear the stock mk1 calipers, they jut out so far! not running them anyways so should be fine, they cleared everything fine when i put them on my mk2.

    mmm ecu goodness

That looks like a 1.8 you are pulling out of that Car Matty.

The water outlet is between cylinder 3 and 4 unlike an early 1.6 where it would be between 1 and 2. its either a 1.8, or a late model 1.6. Check the back of the head for blocked off injector holes, that motor just went up in value

I love the piece of pipe that somene has made in place of the water outlet and to allow you to use early radiator hoses. Great stuff. Dont throw that out

By the way, pulling the loom out is easy, putting it back is the fun part

Yeh its a 1.8 i checked the engine code and has the injector holes covered up. Engine apparently has a cam and some headwork which i will shortly be investigating, also has extractors on it. Will all be for sale some time in the next fortnight if anyone is interested

Now the dash and everything is clear I have cleaned up a bit more of the sealer on the firewall. Pretty much all the way along and all along the strut tower joins is rusted, its only through one layer except it is right through in a little spot into the left wheel arch. Anyone tackled this kind of rust before? whats the best methods? i can't imagine it would be to hard to patch up,
    just after past experiences.

From right to left along the seems.

lolz. shame about the rust,. shouldn't be too hard to do the corners, just hit a piece of metal till it takes the approxx shape of the corner you need to fill. and weld away!

I reckon a sand blaster would be a Godsend for a car like this.

Thats not rust. Thats beginner rust, like we start the apprentices on in Blighty.

Not bad for a 30 year old car mate. wire wheel, welder and some good underseal and she`ll be sweet.

    Keep the updates coming mate.
