Feel pretty gutted right now... just pulled the carpet and stuff up to find a world of rust in the pan. one big hole on the drivers side and another area that goes right through and lots of patchy crap on the passenger area. The passenger side was still soaking wet when i pulled it all up, drying it now with a heat light.

Will post some pics up soon, just stopping for dinner atm

Yeah, run the kr on carbs and leave the tank and lines alone

My motorsport mate can hook you up with an intake manifold, or watercut plate anyway.

Sucks to hear about the rust - I guess you would've had a gut feeling that it's gonna be there when you lifted the carpet off aye? Don't let it set you back though!

    Rust on the passenger side

Drivers side going to have to weld in a section of floor from a donor car for sure.

You can see where water has come through the sealer and rusted

The plug just pulled straight out with the mat, it was quite strange that one just pulled straight out intact.

Roughly cleaned up some of the passenger side area.

Not the best of days with this discovery, but tell you what am i glad i pulled it all up to have a good look. Borrowing a good heat gun from my old man tomorrow and will pull up all these rubber mats.

Thats not so bad mate. Someone who can weld can plate that with fresh steel. i wouldnt cut one out of a donor car they are all 30 years old.

Will do some more cleaning and will see how much i need to cut out, if i can find a clean piece of original floor i would prefer it.

Might be tough to find good enough orig floor pans, unless you get them from a newer cabrio perhaps??

I'd just pop in new metal, easier to work with cleaner and most importantly, rust free!

Pity to hear about this tho! spose it's what happens with these babies..

Floor pan rust are very common in Mk1, it took me 3 months to clean everything up. Anyway, good find

How are you going to strip it to bare metal ? I still haven't decide if I'd do that.
