Engine is ready to come out, just need to borrow an engine crane off a mate, hopefuly will happen this weekend. When the engien is out the body work will start beginning will have a mig sorted out this weekend also so will start hitting the floor.

Been trying to work out if i want to remove the side strips or not, I don't like the stock ones that come on the car, to bulky and I don't like the black part. Been looking at some other cars and like the look of these chrome ones. Not sure if they are custom made or came on a different model mk1??

hey mate... in my experince, it would be much esier to jack the car up on stands and remove the engine from underneath mate, you just need another hand for balance and jack patrol when removing the engine...

From what I know they're custom jobbies, I don't know off a mk1 that had em as standard...

Stu in tassie made some on his blue mk 1.

It is possible to buy the chrome strips pictured above made for the mk1. I got a set for mine at a show last year, from a stall run by a dutch firm, not sure who they were now, but you can probably get the strips online. Otherwise do what some others do and just buy a roll of sticky back crome stripping and put that on, not quite as professional tho.

Those strips are on UK eBay, German eBay, at Trimsport, Typ17, VWTurbo, Mk1 Autohaus - everyone has the damn things!!

Mine were 3M strips in the above pic - they don't taper at the ends, which isn't the best, but I didn't want to use trim clips

    Hey, pizza!

I reckon chrome strips work well on a dark-coloured car, whereas black strips work well on a light-coloured car. My 2 cents!

I see what you mean, i need to make my mind up soon though because i need to either keep the holes for the strips or weld them over...

depends what look you're going for. I went for the clean look. no side strip's, no rubs on the bumpers, no badges, no wheel arch trims. (I think that was it)

While it does look good, and clean, (well it's dirty, but clean) as someone mentioned to me once, it tends to look a bit naked..

And it's not the easiest job to do either. Welding the holes has warped my door a bit. and it's difficult (but do able) boggin in there.

And just so I can whore out my car:

Yeh i like the clean look also, but they do look a bit bare. I was thinking of running the bottom chrome strip but not the top, to give it a bit of a line. I think i will chase up some of the chrome ones, im not running the chrome window rubbers, so it wont be to blingy.

Will save me welding all the holes up, only issue is getting them over here from o/s.

Should have a nice update this weekend, so sit tight guys
