    1.6lt not 1.8 ( tick)
    4 speed not 5 ( tick)

Should also have been LHD as the first RHD models were 79 build year. Dont know what year the factory introduced the steel sunroof, would be 1980 at a guess, maybe the year before..

Only ever saw Regents VW ( dealer here in Perth ) sell 1 factory GTI, it was a 83 Campaign edition ~ $23000 at the time ( 1983)

You can get confirmation from the Wolfsburg museum but it will cost you 35 Euro and take about 6 weeks.....
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

Two more reasons why it's probably not a GTI:

I BELIEVE IT IS AN AUSTRALIAN DELIVERED CAR. (No Mk1 GTIs were delivered to Australia, regardless of year made; as rocco said a 1977 model would be LHD anyway.)

WAS ORIGINALLY YELLOW. (Not a Mk1 GTI colour.)

Either he got told porkies when he bought the car and doesn't have a clue, or he's trying to suck someone into buying genuinely fake GTI.

That's interesting, would have to be a one off import, surely.

Pic of the factory Identification for my imported Scirocco.

Tells me it was a GL when it left the factory.

More imprtantly it tells me the date it left the factory , Greater than 30 years = NO import duty on the vehicle..
