    Victorian Club Rego...

I am nearing the moment of finally having the golf on the road and I have a rego question......

The Victorian Club Rego scheme requires the following:
    - Membership of affiliated car club (VW Vic)
    - Only use the car 90 days a year and must keep a log book
    - Letter from Affiliated car club giving 'approval'

The benefits are that you only pay $120 a year for rego and insurance is a lot cheaper too.

The VW CLub of Vic requires that you get a RWC before they issue their letter.

Given this is a weekend toy and 90 days a year equates to roughly 2 days a week. Why wouldn't I go for club rego? What are the cons?

Not sure that there are any... it all depends upon your own situation. IMHO its far better than the previous scheme where technically the club rego was only to be used for club sanctioned events. At least now you can drive it when you want it but limited to either 45 or 90 days a year.
I am looking at putting one of my bugs on club rego as it does not get driven much.
Guess some might see the log book as a PITA....

I havn't looked at the new scheme in depth but it seems fantastic. Why waste 400 bucks per year on full rego, if you're not going to drive it around every day anyways.

sure you have to fill out the log book, and sure, you are restricted by days. But what are the chances you'll drive the weekend toy the whole weekend everyweekend.

Seems to be pretty good overall imo!

Some of the clubs are asking for annual roadworthy inspections to be part of the scheme which can get a little difficult on a car that is 25+ years old. That and having to fill out the logbook before you start a journey would get a bit tiresome.

You dont need club reg to get cheap insurance. You just need to insure it as being a limited use vehicle. My MK1 Scirocco is insured for 10k and costs $190 a year or something stupid

Here is a quote from the VW Vic CH plate guidelines:

With the adoption of the new CH permit scheme the club has developed the following rules in regards to supporting a vehicle being placed on the CH scheme under the club's name. As such an applicant for the scheme will need to meet with the following requirements.
    1. The applicant’s vehicle must be a Volkswagen and must be a minimum of 25 years or older.
    2. The vehicle must not be modified beyond those modifications allowed under the guidelines as set down in Vic roads data sheet VS18. That is it must be Volkswagen powered and have an original unmodified Volkswagen body and suspension. Note that the VW Club does not support Engineered Modified vehicles on the club permit scheme. We however may consider modifications that have been done purely for safety reasons such as the fitting of seat belts and 6 to 12volt conversions.
    3. For your application you will need to supply the following information by email or mailed to the club post box.
o A description of the vehicle including any modifications to the vehicle.
o A current Victorian Roadworthy certificate (RWC). Ensuring that the RWC contains the correct “VIN” and engine numbers and that the applicants own home address appears on the roadworthy certificate or is supplied with the application.(Most RWC only have the repair mechanics address). The club does not provide vehicle safety checks in lieu of the RWC as this is not covered by our insurance
o Proof of membership (club membership number) and a minimum of 12 month’s current membership paid up in advance with the Volkswagen Club of Victoria.
o A photograph of the vehicle for verification on the Club's permit data base.
Once I have received all the relevant information and determined that your application meets the clubs requirements I will supply to you a signed original application form endorsed by a club permit officer verifying the eligibility of your vehicle for participation on the scheme. Vic Roads will not accept permit applications on the forms downloaded from the internet. Applications for club permits are only processed via email on the Wednesday night of each week and are subsequently mailed out to applicants the next day.
It should be noted that having a car on the Classic and Historic Club Permit Scheme is a privilege and not a right and that all car clubs have the right to set eligibility rules above those set down by Vic Roads. The VW Club has set these requirements in order to preserve our classic and historic Volkswagens and not however to provide a cheap registration for modified or old cars which do not comply with the scheme.
