Also sorry to hijack you thread ! How to remove the rear glass out of the hatch without ruining the plastic that holds it in,
Hey guys, whats the best way to safely remove good window rubber with chrome trim from one mk1 to another... Is there a good way to avoid damage? Cheers.

Also sorry to hijack you thread ! How to remove the rear glass out of the hatch without ruining the plastic that holds it in,
Rear I had to remove the silver insert on the rear screen (came out in about 37 differnt broken bits!) but this seems to be quite a universal strip. Clark rubber sell the insert also rare spars have something simlar that will fit some silly holden thing. Start at the top left or right and have lots of soapy water/silicon spray/patience, i also used a screwdriver(wrapped in tape to avoid paint chips!) to carefully pursuade it out!!
The doors are quite a pain, i got all mine off without damaging them, its straight forward. best take the window out (10mm behind door trim) don't smash it and also consider tinting the windows while they are out if you are into that kinda thing? the chrome trim, pop the cap off that covers the join and carefully work it out, silicon spray helps. the rubbers do it slowly working them off the seal to avoid ripping them. the fronts if you have the small opening 1/4 windows are (for me at least) quite the nightmare. I figured it out eventually but quite fiddly. For the 1/4 windows the guides/seperaters/things are held in but philips screws hidden at the top and bottom of the guide behind the seals. (saying i got them all off, i lied, i actually have done the rear two and front left as i cant be f****d doing the other one yet!
If you think you ever will need to take them off again (full respray?) i wouldnt bother messing around untill then. just incase they get damaged. Will take a few hours, double that if you need to remove them off another car!!
Im trying to source some new ones but its big $$ to get a full set for a 4 door!
Phil.
amen.. i got the oppotunity to buy 4 good doors with good rubber and trim (but different shade of blue to my car)... or just take the rubber and trim off and put them on my existing doors... by the sounds of things it will be a nightmare doing the switch.. maybe better just to go full doors and colour match them??

Nah, the chrome trim spreads the window rubber for a tighter fit. Fit this after the window rubber is fitted.
Glad I heard that. Thank you kindly sir.![]()
