tow bar attatchment on a mk1

hey guys, with the tow bar it attaches to the same point the rear bumper bolts onto does it? does this mean i get rid of the rear bumper if i fit a tow bar? how does it work?

does anyone in sydney have a tow bar set they wanna sell me?

    Thanks

    tow bar

All mk1 tow bars i have seen replace the bumper. I have one which has a black plastic bumper skin on the outiside of the tow bar, making it look the same as the original bumper. Im in newcastle (but i come to sydney often) so do not hesitate to PM me if you are interested in it and i will send some pics etc.

    cheers

The plastic bumper is made up of 2 mounting brackets, an inner steel section and a plastic cover. (The inner steel section has the same mounting hole positions as the chrome bumpers).

The tow bar replaces the muonting brackets and the rest of the bumper bolts to the towbar. Ie the chrome part bolts to the towbar for the early style or the inner steel and plastic cover bolts to the towbar for the later style.

The towbar ends up inside the bumper once it's all fitted up.

The towbars on my cars are both Hayman Reese and have the full compliance tags on them with all the load limits etc. which might be a roadworthy issue for some people.

Here's a pic from a previous post of mine of how it looks fitted up.

thanks pete, my bumper looks exactly the same as your type, are they the same? does this mean if i get a tow bar attatchment, i can just fit my old bumper back on?

    thanks
