Smile Top red brake light on - spongey brake pedal Mk 1

    Hi all

During the week I noticed that my brake pedal felt a bit spongey, when applying the brakes the initial stroke nearly went tothe floor which was a bit scary! the second stroke was better. After a few minutes the brake pedal was spongey again...

Today the top red brake light (the one with the brake linings) came on and I heard a grinding noise from the front LHS wheel, it is worse when turning. I had a similar noise about a month ago which went away after a week or so.

What could cause this, pads, booster? The brake fluid seems to be at the correct level in the reservoir etc

I bought some jack stands to day to investigate further - any ideas please before I start to do the work

    Thanks
