    Stupid cops

so I got a speeding fine... 97 in an 80 zone... fair enough, I was happy to accept that...... but then the .,d decided to do a full check.. indicators, lights, horn, etc..... at the time, my horn and my reverse lights weren't working, and my number plate was on the dash because the new number plate holes didn't match up with the front mount holes on the golf.

So he decided to be a b.. and write me up a defect notice, and checked the box "full roadworthy inspection required by authorized person" ....... great, so I already know my window washer needs replacing, seat belts, front struts, seats, and god knows what else......... how long does he give me? 2 weeks!!!! ARGH.... can't afford all that in 2 weeks.......

What a bad day I have worked on my golf for like a year now keeping it going nicely and tinkering here and there maintaining her....... and now I'm pretty much forced to take it off the road.....

Guess I'll have to strip it down and rebuild it? new engine and all?

So a police officer defects you for driving an unsafe vehicle on a public road and gives you the usual 2 weeks to have it fixed and somehow it's the police officer's fault?

actually, the usual is 28 days.. and it isn't unsafe. I was getting those problems fixed within the next few weeks anyhow. please don't tell me you've never driven a car in that sort of condition?

They're brand new plates on the dash - so it must have been passed not long ago anyways... It should have been working when you got your roadworthy... They're pretty picky about passing this here in Tas now...

I know it sucks, but at the end of the day they are doing their job. Sometimes you just have to take it and anyway, it gives you a reason to get things fixed up on the car that you may not have done otherwise.

thanks static..... makes me feel a bit better.. and I know all this, it just really fired me up because I've spent so much time money and effort into this car already.... yep, new plates, only was re-rego'd in december.......... that's why I was a bit pissed that he had to go over the whole car and then send me to get a full inspection....... he was laughing to himself too... which REALLY pissed me off... and made me think he was having a bit of a "power trip". I told him that I was waiting for a drill to drill some new holes in the plate, still he gave me a $110 fine for not having them on......... not nice... and also, told him the car was already booked in for electrical diagnosis.... still, full inspection required....... yes, I know it's his job, but he could have been a little more forgiving giving the fact I was already pretty much committed to getting the problems rectified.

anyways..... it's pretty much forced me to take it off the road as there is no way I can afford a roadworthy inspection, then all the parts that need replacing and/or fixing. At least it'll give me more motivation to start on the build.

don't own a drill, and never got around to borrowing one. been so busy with work, girlfriend, etc. I know I know, 2 minute job right... I was just slack and forgot about it I guess, and didn't realize how much of a big deal it was.... $110 fine for that alone... sheesh. anyway.... regardless of that, he still would have pinned the "full roadworthy inspection" on me, so would have been stuffed either way lol
