Go the clutch!!
They work excellently on Mk1 Golfs, used to have one in my old competition golf.
Good luck with the rebuild too Stephy.

good start! I'm keen to see the finished result.
again, good luck with that clutch, you sure are going to have a STRONG left leg when your finished!
p.s I'd want to strengthen the firewall where the clutch cable goes through as they have a habbit of pulling through, even with a stock clutch!

Awww thanks guys!
Thanks for the tip about the clutch, i'll get "Mr Bodyworks" to weld something in there for me when he has the car, and yes, have driven a car with one before, when Matt got it for me i wasn't sure if i should be happy or concerned, oh well... Can't say i'll be driving it everyday!
Hope to get engine pics soon - will post them and you can all drool over it too!
The clutch won't make a difference, the pressure plate is the thing that governs the weight on the cable.. So if you are running a heavier pressure plate aswell as the solid centre clutch plate, then yes, it will put more force on the firewall and may cause it to pull through. Depends a lot on what condition your firewalls is in to begin with though..

Oh you're a chick? Nice. It's always nice to see chicks doing this sort of thing, as it's reasonably rare. Good stuff!
No, that's not a harsh comment.. Stereotypically speaking I totally get where you're coming from!
Oh, and given that Andrew (gtimk5) is too humble to give himself a plug, he's an AWESOME mechanic and will be a great source of information and parts for you, given that you live in Tassy.. Even I deal with him for a lot of stuff! haha.
.. He's also not a bad fella to boot, so it's win-win.

Oh sweet! So you are from Tas! I'll sing out if i run into trouble if that's ok? Given it's a restoration - i most likely will... Need to concentrate on the VR tho - it's in need of love and attention.. and style...
