Yeah man, i think so. I bought the carbie off Marty (TwinEngineTwinTurbs) and he tested it and said it was working fine, he also said it was recently jetted for a 1.8 and asured me it would be fine for mine.

The car runs its just not perfect.

Looks to be a very tidy shell you have too. Next thing I would do is get the big dent in the front panel sorted when you have the money, as this'll really finish off the front end nicely.

    Great work
    Thanks mate, appriciate the compliment!

I was going to get the dent sorted when we sprayed the engine bay but it was in a tricky spot and most of the front end is made up of filler anyway, from the previous owner, so a new front pannel will be the go. We will be respraying it later in the year, it will include inside the arches and underneath the car aswell, making sure to remove as much rust as possible. Im also hopping to have a twin webber 16v in there by the end of University.

BTW ive kept (or bought if it wasn't on the car) most of the original parts (i.e. door cards with no holes, rear 1/4 cards, center console) just in case we ever want to return it to standard spec. I wish we could have kept the engine and gearbox

Ok so bad news, car doesn't work. Won't run and wont start and it can get ****ed.

Got the res and tip put on at the exhaust shop and then spent 4hrs trying to get it to start, got a wheel alignment and sloooowly drove it home where it broke down 5min from home and i spent another 2hrs tryin to get it running again. Funny thing was it drove without issue to the exhaust place.

A few people suggested the dizzy is stuffed and its getting to much fuel with the ****ty fuel pump so today i bought a 5psi Carter rotary vane pump, almost the same as what Pete Jones runs on his race car but from what i understand his has a higher pressure. I mounted it the same way he did. The pump is a lot less noisy than the other one, just a slight hum rather then DAK DAK DAK DAK!

Pete was also kind enough to lend me a working dizzy that i will pick up tomorrow. Hopefully it does the trick and i can get this box to SEDF at least.

I hate being a shiz kent at this!!

This is how Pete mounted his:

Yeah, that pump has been doing the job very well. Mine is rated at 72 gph @ 18psi but runs at about 6PSI which is ideal.

Prior to that I had one of the Facet block pumps which just couldn't keep up.

It went in November 2008 and has fuelled twin 40mm Dellortos around many racetracks at 8000rpm and beyond.

These things are the right tool for the job!

Looking at buying one of them soon, the 4070 model i think, rated at 5psi and 72gph.
Will this be suitable for a stock carby on a 1800 (single throat solex) for a couple of months till i go a weber setup.

Also did you guys put a filter between tank and pump, read if you don't it can kill pump quicker.

That'll run a stock carb. no problems.

I have a big plastic disposable filter in between the tank and the pump and then a servicable glass filter just before the carbs. Each carb also has it's own built in filter.

I just looked in to it a bit closer and mine is a 4070, 72gph and 4-6psi rating so I think its the same pump as Pete's.
I picked it up from VPW in epping for $129.

Picked up the dizzy from pete today and installed it.
The car ran for about 5min perfectly, idled smooth, reved smooth, turned off without turning the motor backwards, perfect! Then once it warmed up it all went to shiz.
I tested the ignition coil and it was reading like 5mega ohm on the secondary coil, once it cooled down it was back to normal about 15k ohm so i figured it was stuffed and went out and bought a brand new coil.
I installed that and the car runs and revs but like it used to. Idle is rough and wont idle below 1.5k. I still cant get close to the timing mark but I assume it will drive.

The weather was getting bad and i had enough for today so ill test drive it tomorrow.

might sound weird, but double check timing belt and all timing marks again.

My first 1.8l did same thing as yours, turns out cam was 1 tooth out.. it ran and revved fined... but it would hold idle and when it did it was 1400rpm
It it hydraulic lifter? maybe one is sticking and not getting valve open fully.

Might just be something very small
