woot! get this thing terrorising the streets again already!
Update, sorry no pics because my camera isnt working.
Got a 32/36 carbie off Marty and im asured it is in good working order. Marty, the legend, also marked off all the important bits on it so i dont stuff it up.
I also cleaned the interior, fitted the volt meter and switches and fix a few other bits and bobs. So the interior is done.
Hopefully I can put the carby in on Sunday and get the motor running properly and take it for a test drive. Fingers crossed everything is fine in that department.
If all goes well under the hood then all that is left is a wheel alignment and cut n polish.

I had same problem,
replaced leads, plugs, points, cap, Coil, Carby, gaskets.
Did timing, mixture, replaced vacuum hoses ect. And it STILL wouldnt idle right.
I just put up with it
Are you sure you havnt got timing belt one notch off? i did that and it idled bad
<space for rent>
Have you got any other parts to swap out and do a trial and error?
I had a stuffed Distributer that caused all sorts of hassles!!
My idle was 1000rpm average, but would bounce from 700 to 1200 all the time,

I found the problem today by spraying carbie cleaner around the base of the carbie. Its got a vacume leak on both sides of the carbie.
I went out and got some thicker gasket paper, 80thou this time, cut it up, slapped it on and it was fine for about 20sec untill it started leaking again. I tried to tighten it down even though your not supposed to but that didn't help.
I would really like to get my hands on a nice new gasket that was made for the Passat manifold, does anyone know if they are still available?
Tomorrow i am going to try seal it up with silicon gasket maker and see how far i get.
On the up side, i got the tie rod end undone thanks to my neighbor Tony and adjusted the toe so that the wheels are straight
