Having said that money should be furthest from the equation in the end - if you feel that you want Stage 2 to follow, go for it!
Is there part of you that wants that gearshift and brake bias adjuster to remain raw and uncovered instead of putting carpet over it? That pic you used is yelling at me!
The problem with my plan is that I see so many different pics of my future car in my head that plans seem to morph from one thing to another. I was pleased to see your plan took a year of working on the car to materialise. That's really comforting.
The current idea is neptune blue (original swallowtail colour) with satin chrome bumpers and handles, smoked lights/blinkers and charcoal wheels with an anthrocite interior (leather dash/seats/doorcards). Its been wedged in my noggin for the longest so its got precedence.
Sounds excellent My ideas changed heaps of times too... in fact, I bought 3 engines (1 2.0 8v and 2 ABFs!) and 3 set of wheels since starting the car!!!

I'd love a leather dash too, but my god it's expensive to have done

Blue, silver or grey are my favourite Mk1 colours

Re the gearshift and bias adjuster, that's all going to sit above the carpet. I'll clean the setup a bit today when the carpet goes in.

Edit: Here's the build from the beginning ---> http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40260

I had a close call today! The car started making some unhappy rattling sounds yesterday evening... WTF is that, I thought?! It was coming from the lower left front area

I'd been having problems with the swaybar knocking against the control arms due to the car being so low, but I'd made some different brackets the day before and fixed the problem... I figured the set-up must have come loose. I pulled over, had a look underneath and grabbed the swaybar - tight. Grabbed the wheel - no play. Top mount tight. Wishbone tight.

Hmm, must have buggered a CV joint (pretty common with low Mk1s I'm told!). Limped the car home slowly and dug up a spare short driveshaft as the inner joint did have play. Went to take the wheel off - bolts were finger tight Oops!!

How could I have been that dumb not to check them when I pulled over!! Had I driven any further the wheel would have come off and probably written the car off in the process.

Replacement wheel spacers, driveshaft and new wheel bolts and the car's fine again.

First brush with Mk1 death: done. Hopefully the last.

Have fixed the ill-fitting exhaust too - car is still too loud for my liking, but I'll put up with it. It sounds like a Gixxer on full throttle up the highway - very raspy. Not the nicest exhaust note, I don't think...

About to put a new rear hatch window in as the current one is scratched up badly. Will have to pay Novus as the seals are too tight for me and I'm paranoid about breaking the glass...

I'm going to get some night time pics of the car soon with the tripod; just waiting for better weather

    Thanks Drew!

I've been out in it quite a bit lately, but I work weird hours, so everyone is usually not up yet, or gone to bed!

    Here's some late night pics...
