some pics would be nice otherwise it's a problem to decide what things are to do.
hi all,
found some previously repaired rust in the roof channel above the door.
It has been bogged at some stage but the rust has returned.
I'm not at all familiar with the process of removing and restoring rusted sections of cars and wanted to know a simple way of how to do and and what tools and products i will need to repair it.
any advice will be greatly appreciated.
cheers,
Michael

Piccies please, then we know what we're working withIt's not all bad, a full tintop roof transplant can be done
But I'm sure it won't get to that
Chris
More than likely you are going to need an angle grinder, some sand paper, some filler, however if it is really bad you will need to weld it somehow, ie. braze weld filling.
As mentioned it is all down to how bad it actually is.
Cheers.
Michael.
shall get some pics asap,
it's not major but yeah just need to know how to go about fixing it so it doesn't get worse![]()
Thats the way mate, nip it in the bud

right here are some pics, only small but as you can see it's been fixed at some time. it has a crack running right down the seam and has rust pretty much the whole way along the roof track.
doesn't look major yet but yeah guess there could be some more hiding under there somewhere

this is not a common rust position for a mk1, maybe in the past the car had a damage at this position!? First you have to take sand paper and remove all paint, rust and surfacer. Then paint antirust paint and after this filler and finally the yellow colour.
And don't wait to long, otherwise the rust will eat your Mk1
Cheers
Mario
Defo not common, doesn't appear to be on a 'normal' area of corrosion. Need to take the paint back to see what's going on underneath. Bit of a pain in the a*&@ but nip it in the bud as soon as to prevent future headaches![]()
