    Cheers Andrew,
yeah it's starting fine now speedo cable is also fine which is good haha!

Red - That por15 stuff did look the goods, if the stuff we have both used doesn't clear up the rust will just have to try again. doesn't really worry me too much, just means i get to spend more time making it look good

Oh yeah guys & girls, make sure when you are checking for rust you look under the chrome strip, it covers all kinds of wonders lol (not always what you want to see but oh well)

so i ATTEMPTED to do a good job on the painting today and made a horrible mess of things
I think the only way to fix it is going to be a full respray, but can't afford that for now
Does anyone know how much i'd be looking at to get a respray done and could i minimise the cost by doing the sanding and stuff myself?

depends where you go. some places wont like that you've done your own prep, others won't mind at all, and that'll be a cheaper job for you. I reckon 2K is the absolute minimum for a proper decent job, most probably at a smash repair place, providing you've done all the prep yourself, & it's just an ext spray. But it really depends on the sprayer, the only way to really tell is to go around and get quotes yourself, with your car. I could be way off! [it's happened before..]

post some pics of your spraying attempt, perhaps we can help fix, or rectify the problem.

2K is a absolute min for a basic job, Jarred. For a decent job you're looking at 4K min.
I paid 2.5K which came back as Okay job, that was what I really wanted to pay, and I did all the sanding. filling.. etc You'll see the result in VW nat.
