your daughter is lucky as "insert word" to not only get her first car paid for her, but it be a mk1 golf...

melissa, have you used penfolds at georgetown before? my bro used to take his mk1 there. ive heard mixed messages about them. perry is good for greenslips tho!

ive also heard ben prefers the aircooled vw's.. i took my first car to him ages ago.. it was a mk2 jetta.. he didnt really want a bar of it..

also, dont go anywhere near newcastle automotive on cnr of darby st and king st in town?!

Great purchase. Certainly a great car to learn how to drive in.

Re: Dashmat, it has been said you can get them for Super Cheap etc.. If that won't work, Aunger do the, so any reputable auto shop will do the trick.

Interior lights are about $20-$25 genuine from a VW parts dealer. They are notorious for going brittle real quick due to the heat the globe puts out. I put a new one into my cabby and replaced the globe with an LED light for about $10. Try Jaycar or an auto parts store for these little suckers.

Congrats again. Hope your daughter will get to know the car and learn how to work on it. It's been said that all you need to work on most of the parts in a Golf is a 10mm, 13mm, 17mm, & 19mm sockets/spanners, flat head & Philips Heads Screwdrivers, box spanner for the plugs, and a 6mm allen key. Smallest toolkit around!

Thanks Rednut - I have not used Penfolds myself. I have taken it to J & W Mechanical up on Lake Road, Elermore Vale and the other mechanic I use is Nymeyers.

Thanks Paulie, got the dashmat from a member here and picked up the interior light - cost me $25 or $35 - I cant remember - from local VW mechanic. Owning 5 cars makes it hard to remember exactly what I have bought for them lately! LOL

She has been having some lessons in it but it has started being tempremental - I will put up a new post about that little quirk.
