Wow, so sad
Great work on keeping it away from the crushers.. for now.
At least some parts will go to fixing up other mk1's
So i live up Far North Queensland and its rare to come across a MK1 golf, i traveled across the country to get mine.. Now recently my father got word of a mk1 that had been dropped off at a local landfill to be destroyed, the car was apparently running and in roadworthy condition.
I rang up the dump to ask if i can come buy/take it, they bluntly stated; No, once it's here it cannot leave. It was such a shame to just let the car get crushed so i told him do not touch it i'm ringing the council to see what they say. Head of Council said the exact same thing with the extra '****head' :/
After i got abused by him i emailed our town mayor asking her about the car, and why arn't we recycling! 12hrs later i got a reply from her stating we could go and collect it !
So today came (1day after email was replied to) and we went out with a trailer to pick her up, i was so excited because haven't seen it yet, but as soon as we entered the gate and saw the poor 2 door LS on its lid i shed a few tears..
We ended up flipping her over to see what it was like and it was absolutely guttered from the dump people.. As we had little tools not nearly as much stuff as i wanted was scavenged, but i did end up getting a few neat things for free. Fuse box, rear bumper, grill/badge, chrome handles, mint cluster, heaps of different trims and a few more i can't think of.. Also had the 'smoothie' bonnet
Might go back one day and take so more stuff
