    RWC in Vic

So my 76' 4 door Golf is close to being finished.

It has been off of rego for an unknown period and needs a RWC.

Does anyone have any experience getting an Unregistered Vehicle Permit for driving to a RWC test?

The online guide says you need to declare that it is safe for road use. Is this based on the owners opinion, or does someone need to come look at the car?

I'd also love some recommendations for a RWC mechanic here in Melbourne. I'm in the inner North, but I'm happy to travel for a mechanic who understands mk1 project cars (ie. project car: 1800 motor swap, 32/36 weber, 5spd, replaced floor pan, wiring modifications, elec fuel pump etc).

    Thanks everyone!

It's down to the owner to make sure the car is roadworthy. It's fairly unlikely the cops will question the roadworthiness if you do get stopped as long as the car looks ok i.e. Not too low, missing parts, etc.

This is based on my experience of getting pulled over on a permit while I was on my way to register a car.

I agree with the above. If you do get pulled over the police just check your paperwork is in order.

Last time I had a permit I got pulled over 4 times whilst on the way to Vic Roads. Not having any rego plates and being spotted doesn't help.

Thanks for the insight everyone. Good to know!

Haha Horace, I obviously don't have plates too. Plus the golf is bright orange.

Anyone have any suggestions for a RWC mechanic??

Can't beat Boris at Volkscare in Boronia! Guy is a legend and will be straight up about your car. Most mechanics don't want to touch mk1s because they are so old and they aren't commodores etc etc.

Some guy I went told me my car was worth 200 bucks and I got ripped off. Just do it right the first time. Take it to Boris, he'll give you a list, you finish the list and he'll sign it off.

Best of luck with it all

    Thanks everyone.

I now remember you mentioning Boris ages ago Browneye. Sounds like Volkscare is the way to go!

Hopefully I finish it off this weekend and grab a UVP asap.

I'll let you guys know how I go.

    Cheers.
