    sweet.

I'll have to come over one weeekend once my golf is running again, see what I can use! hahahha

    and Ray.

Damn man. nice collection there. I think that orange one with the wire wheels will be similar for what I'll go for. although it all depends on difficulty. If it's too hard to do the bends, I might just go for a "flat" roof rack. We'll see. I'll have to pop down to bunnings and see what's what with the pipes first.

Judging the pics, for the quality you're after I'd try looking up council websites to see when hard rubbish collections are on.

For ratty accessories if you really must have 'em my local tip runs a shop selling stuff they've pulled off the scrap heap.

Scroll to bottom of page for the shop details, it's amazing the stuff people throw out. Roof racks turn up pretty often.

Yeah, been there a few times when I've been doing tip runs with SEAT interiors!

It's actually pretty good, there's heaps of bits and pieces.

I bought a retro 1960s coffee table for $5 last time I was there (to go in my retro 1960's house) really good condition I just had to revarnish the legs. A pretty classic piece from the Parker / Eames era for those of you that are in the know.

I've also seen stainless rice pipes, wheels, conduit, bikes, tool boxes, electrical stuff, gates doors, tow bars, just about anything really...

Yeah Brian Davis makes'em for Kgs and beetles. You've probably seen his looooow tubbed type 3 at VW events for about the last 10 years.

He tend's to run with the DSK crowd , one of those guys could track him down.

I'l keep my eyes open for various things on ebay, and I might pop down to a trash n treasure, but chances are it'll be a custom jobbie made from various bits of stuff Dad's got lying around in the garage.

Make it out of 20x20 RHS and paint it with a brush with red oxide primer.

    Actually, do it. Seriously.

    Rectangular Hollow Section.

Or as some less educated (in this area, not saying they're idiots) people call it, "box tubing".

You know, the square mild steel section you see EVERYWHERE, used as structural section for frame work, they mate ute tray bodies out of it, benches, pretty much anything... If you go into a manufacturing plant it will be used for everything from stools, tables to machine guards.

Aren't you studying to become a mechanical gingerbeer? I thought you would have learn't about RHS...

They don't teach engineers much at all these days! I would have assumed all year one engineers would learn about basic raw materials and fasteners. But I find myself having to explain terms like M8x1.25x20 10.9 all the time.
