    Roadworthy/Legal?

Does anyone know whether or not it is legal and roadworthy for mk1 golf to be bumperless front & back?
Also the interior, my plans are to keep it to an absolute minimum meaning no sound deadening or carpet. All wiring etc will be nicely tucked away & covered so they are not visible or exposed. No roof headliner just bare metal roof, doors and rear will have panels. There are no back seats just driver and passenger. Battery will be wired and enclosed behind the passengers seat or possibly in the centre behind the handbrake.

Is anyone familiar, has knowledge or experience and is able to guide me here?

    Thanks,
    Elias

It may depend on which state you are in.
Id say bumpers are required everywhere.
Batteries will normally be in a sealed box that is vented outside the car.

Seat removal is generally ok so long as the belts are removed as well and the car is registered as a 2 seater.

Not sure about the roof lining but it doesnt weigh much. Dont really see the sense in losing it.

As above, Bumpers are an ADR post 1972

There are, however, special registration groups in Victoria, such as Rally plates and Club Permit Schemes that allow more freedom

You can so anything you want until you're caught haha. My current daily Honda crx is absolutely stripped inside, only bare essentials remain. I've been pulled over and gone through booze busts etc, no dramas. It is regd as a 2 seater so no dramas what so ever. Also I'm running a battery inside the car, and no box or vent required if it is an optima or a dry cell battery of some sort. I've passed rwc like this a few times. As for the bumpers, it is illegal to remove them, unfortunately as I'd love to rock bumperless, but having said thst most ppl have never seen or known about mk1 golfs to know what they have and don't have.
    - Orange Golf mk1 LS, 1.8 5speed, 32/36 - sold
    - Golf mk1 Swallowtail rebuild, completely stripped
    - Brown U.S import 81 cabby
    - 88 Honda crx b18cr
