You need to spend at least $3.5k to get a good one I reckon.

An import or something needing work would be cheaper.

I agree mate, I agree. This guy wanted $2400 for this one tho and the Vehicle Inspector reckoned it was one of the worst cars he'd seen in the past 10 years of doing the job! He reckoned it was worth $600!

What sort of costs to Import one from the UK? Any idea's on shipping, Import duty and what modifications need to be done? I have a mate in UK who has a Gti Mk I cab for sale and it's absolutely mint.

Search import on here, has been done to death.

The car has to be pre 1989 and RoRo ferry will cost $2500, plus compliance etc. I`d factor $5k Aussie, plus the cost of the UK car.

There are mid 80s Grey import ones kicking around that go for between $1000-$2500.

maybe a good buy for someone who doesn't mind a few fixes.
Also mate, a few fixes? The car was knackered well and truly and there was more than a 'few' fixes. Inside and outside was a mess, Inspector reckoned it had had a major prang, grass growing under the roof lining...rust everywhere etc etc

Good luck if you want to try and 'fix' it. It's in Sydney.....go have a look yourself and let me know your thoughts!

sounds like this the the first golf you've looked at.

gotta have a soft spot for them to take it up.

    I've seen a few...

I agree about the price but sometimes it's wonderful to un-earth a gem for a cracking price! Don't we all feel a sense of 'achievement' when we negotiate a good deal?

The first link you sent me.....What do you think about it? New roof of course but how do you rate it otherwise?

the hard top two doors GTI's keep better value if your after a gem.

There's one on carsales for the $10K mark which is very rare. No rust or soft top to worry about.
