    Replacing 8v Hyd Head Lifters - Advice

    Hi all,

    About to replace the lifters in the 8v with a new set - hyd lifter head.

    I have two main concerns or questions as I haven't attempted this before alone but;

    1. If I mark the position of the timing belt, cam gear etc, will my timing remain the same when reassembling?

    2. It is important that the cam does not rotate when removing it and that it is replaced at the exact position it was? If it moves will this affection lift duration?

    Any insight much appreciated, I think it is a pretty straight forward job, but chasing some thoughts before I dive into it.

    Michael.

    It would be best to do this job with a Haynes manual handy but....

    Set the engine so that #1 is at TDC, the valves will be closed and both cam lobes pointing up away from the head. You'll find a mark on the cam pulley which should be level with the edge of the head.

    The crank pulley has a notch in it and this should be pointing to the arrow in the belt cover. Rotate the crank to get this as close as you can at the top and bottom.

    Take the dissy cap off, the rotor arm should now be pointing to the #1 plug lead. If you take the rotor and dust cap off, if fitted, there's a notch on the edge of the dissy body. This should be under the middle of the rotor pretty much.

    The one to watch when you put it back together is the dissy. When you move the belt, it's almost certain that you will move the intermediate shaft driving the dissy and knock the timing out.

    easy as job mate,
    As everyone else said, mark it all before you go pulling **** out, then put said **** back where it goes HAHA

    BTW, pull the dizzy out, then when you get the cam and crank lined up and belt on, set the dizzy afterwards
