    Removing early mk1 Golf dashboard

Can any one give some tips on how to carefully remove a series 1 golf dashboard as I have a member on this fourm who is going to remove one for me to come over with my '76 to the UK at the end of Feb! Thanks

    disconnect the air pipes.

take off the nobs for the air con, then undo the 2 screws holding that mech in.

put your hand up behind the cluster and pull plugs out, unscrew the speedo.

    gently shimmy the cluster out.

be careful around the ashtray as the cig lighter clips break easy. Maybe label some of thees wires as there can be a few if you have gauges.

there is a couple of screws near each door underneath the dash.

Im sure there is a few other things but its not very tricky as you will find out, just be gentle.

    (thats what she said)

If the radio is fitted then it must be removed to access 1 screw holding the cluster in place. The heater controls are attached to the dash bby 2 screws behind the heater control panel. Its just a little patience and looking to see where the screws are that are holding the dash in there. The forward leading edge is held near the screen by some simple clips so it just need sliding backwards to dislocate these.
