    Red trim on GTI grill

I have a mk1 gti and the previous owner put some un-trimmed grill on it. I want to restore it back to the red gti trim, anyone have any ideas on what shade of red or maybe where they have bought a can of red spray paint that looked pretty close to the right colour?

Mars Red is what your looking for.

Can't remember the VW color code, but I'm sure someone here will.

Edit Just found it Mars Red L31B

OK thanks for that. Yeah it does look like the mars red come to think of it, I used to have a golf that colour.

I wonder if Bunnings has anything close. I've seen the pics of your grill Wabit, where did you get that paint from? It looks pretty close.

If it's for a mk1, you can remove the trim surround's to paint it.

I can't tell you about mk2's, but I think you might have to mask it up

It's Mars red until about 1987, then it was Tornado Red.

Thats a good picture. The mk1 red does look like toolbox red.

I'm just going to remove the trim and paint it off the car.

I resprayed mine...their is a thread about it here. I got paints from bunnings, i can find out the colour if you want...i think the main issue with things like this is the fact that you get a paint that has a certain amout of flex in it.

Turned out ok I reckon...did some plastic repairs as well.

not all mk1s have the trim around it. ones with chrome trim will pull off so you can spray it tho.
