    rear door handle jammed

hey guys, day of DOVW my rear handle on the drivers side decided to jam when i went to open the door, now it wont open. tried to open from the inside but now also wont work. the lock seems to be playing up also because when i pull it up and then try and open the door from the inside it locks again.

the handle has jammed a couple of times before but all i have done is open it from the inside, take off the chrome strip on the handle, unscrew it and unscrew the screw on the side of the door that holds the handle on and pop, it unjams.

i am not sure what to do this time. any ideas??? that all seemed a mouthful i hope i have explained it enough for u.

Sounds like the door handle lever has snapped and is jamming the door lock.

If this is the case you'll need a new door handle but you've got to get yours off the car first which means opening the door somehow.

I'd jiggle all the locks and hope to get lucky otherwise I'd be pulling the door liner off and poking about in there to try and free up the mechanism.

If I got real desperate and still couldn't open the door, I'd cut the door handle off the car aiming to destroy the lever mechanism while I was at it.

How did you go with this problem?
Lube or new door lock mechanism?

well.... i ended up wiggling the lock and continuously pulling the handle from the inside. i took it off and put a second hand handle on. it did turn out that i could have just lubed it all up and still used it by the looks of it though. just didnt want to risk it happening again.

For anyones reference - its not too hard to pull of the interior door card and open the door manually with your finger. I had to do with with my 1st mk1 on BOTH rear doors, as the outer door handles didnt work, and the child locks were engaged on both sides, haha!
