Fantastic pics Geoff, the golf looks very original in the body mate and I love the rear wheel steering in the first shot. A sign of a good suspension setup. They are great fun cars for gravel rallying as well as sealed events.
Thanks for sharing them with us, I salute you!!!
Always good to see early Golfs being used in competition.
    Cheers, Andrew

    Hi everyone
Thanks for all the positive feedback
A guy in our club took all the photos who has lots of talent and good equipment. He does his stuff at just about every rally in Victoria.

The car has been very reliable and never let us down. Had to replace both engine mounts at different times, now I'm using round nylon inserts in the top part of the mounts. Started off using a nylathane front engine steady and broke the mount bracket where it bolts onto the engine. Replaced the bracket then the nylathane bit disintegrated so I'm back to running the original rubber. Still using the standard rubber hangers on the exhaust system
which consists of one hotdog up the front and another down the back and use 2 rubbers each side of the rear hotdog. I've had to replace a few of these during the year. Have to take the rear drums off regularly and clean the crap out and have had to machine the drums and replaced the linnings once during the year.
Put new oil in it for every event, lost count of the airfilters I've used. Go over it with the spanners between events. Use adjustable Koni shocks and it oversteers nicely on power off. I just love it .Hoping to come along on the Maroondah Dam BBQ.

    Catch you later

    Hey Geoff, Looking Good!!
That didn't look like Rusty in the silly seat - does she get to play with the baby?
Must try to get down to vic some day, be fun to put the beasties in the same event.

    Hi Charles
Good to link up,one of our club members sent us a photo of your Golf a little while ago, looks great.
Your right, it's not Rach in the left seat.
I mainly concentrate on the HRA events which generally have old style navigation required. You know plotting points from map co-ordinates, take shortest maped route, enter fom the bla bla bla direction , use unmapped road, half a dozen via points to visit per section and thats not really the sort of stuff she enjoys.
She likes route charted and pace noted style events so she gets plenty of those with other people doing VRC and the like. We did the Alpine in 07 together finishing 52nd out of 107 starters.
We run a stock standard engine and 4 speed box so its not the fastest in a straight line but its been very reliable and I get into power off oversteer so it's quick on the tight twisty stuff in the forests.
What sort of things are you doing?

    Geoff

Sounds like she needs to move to Canberra
Local/Regional rallies here are mostly route-charted but a couple (ROC especially) are pacenoted. But the roads are ruff!! My beautiful POR15 paintwork is looking sad after just two outings.
With the summer break on us I want to finish some of the wiring, put a heatshield under the webers and maybe look at the suspension some more. I also have a Rick Bates lesson (thanks to my wonderful wife) to schedule.
    Happy times....

    Charles.
