VW Motorsport quick racks for the golf1 were made until the mid 80's but supplies dried up by the late 80,s. Maybe you might be lucky and find one on UK ebay.
Started trolling for quick rack options, quaif list 2.9 and 3.1 turns lock-to-lock. Interested I went out to the shed and checked the rack out of my golf, I measured a bit less than 3 turns - ok the rack is on the bench, but I wonder how this compares to other peoples' cars.

If it measures less than 3, surely you are right anyway?
Surely a smaller steering wheel is the easy answer anyway.

The point is moot anyway if I cant find a new rack, I was just curious as to what was standard in the mk1.

And a smaller wheel is on order, unfortunately the OMP I like is $300ish

Got a stock as a rock 1976 golf here that take 3.5 LTL!
Sounds like you have a good rack there
Ive got a couple of others here that I can measure in daylight. You`ve got me wondering now.
