thats a clean looking mk 1. well on the outside atleast! good luck with that rust,
OK, here's my Mk1, its a '76 LS with a 2.0l. from a '94 Golf and 5 speed. Looks ok, but is in need of some lovin, a few bits of rust here an there, front struts need replacing, g/box needs diff bearings? noisey on the over run, and a general tidy up.
looks like the seam sealer actually holds moisture encouraging rust , it looked fine untill I peeled some back, nasty, some of the rust, behind the fuse box.
drivers side floor,
if any one has a shell that the kick board panel could be cut out of, let me know.

TDI mk1 on the road!!
Man that looking good mate... When did you get the wheels? Hope u can get into the rebuild soon? I loved the write up on the return trip from getting the car...
Any idea on when you will have it going properley? Got a goal date set?
Cheers James
that looks sweet man. you used to have those wheels on your mk2 yeh? still got it?
cheers guys,
roll bar? yep, its a bit out of date but will do for the mo, ok for club events hilclimbs ect. The wheels are simmons 16" V4's, they were on my MK2 gti which has steelies on it for the minute, just trying them on they are just a bit too wide but look cool as, I plan to put the chrome trim back in the window seals and the standard trim on the body. No real plan to get it back on the road, just do a bit here and there when I've got time, but the sooner the better,
Steve.

I knew that car looked familar.
Look's like our's has the same rust problem as mine 76er.
Its because of the lack of seam sealer in the engine bay where the strut tower's meet the firewall. The sealer cracks & let's in the water/moisture.
Looks the good's with the 16"s on it.
Look's abit like a German touring car with those V4's
Hopefully see you on the road on a cruise sometime.
