Yeah I lost a fair amount of bark off my hands today doing it, don't worry.

It seems to be running on a little when you lift off (when it's warmed up). Thinking the pump may be advanced a bit too much, but not sure? It was hard to get it back in exactly the same spot without dialing it up. I'll have to play with it. Just a PITA because you have to remove the alternator to undo the bottom pump bolt. Arg.

    Hey man,
If it is advanced too much, you'll probably notice that its even noisier than before.

Taking the pump head off is definately a tricky job (well, putting it back together is anyway). I take it you didn't remove the pump top? (where the throttle lever is?). If not, then the governor will still be set the same, so you oughtn't have any problems there.

There are a lot of "little bits" in the head assembly that might possibly cause you problems - and the one i'm thinking of is a simple round shim about 4mm OD and 1.5mm thick that sits at the end of the plunger. If that didnt go back in it might be causing your run-on issue. (Its also possible you didnt even notice it, because it can just be stuck at the end of the plunger with the thin film of diesel and not fall off of its own accord.

In any case, going internal with the injector pump is a major psychological achievement. Well done.

    Thanks, dude.

Yeah I noticed the little shim and made sure it was intact when I reassembled the pump.

Do you think I should try retarding it a little? It does seem a bit rattlier than before at idle. Seems to have a little more power now, too.

I'm new to diesels so it's a fair learning curve, but interesting nonetheless.

    Thanks for the help.

Yeah if your concerned try and retard it a little bit. Or, try lowering the idle a bit. that will bring the revs down faster.

Progress has slowed on the GLD.

Waiting for some Weitec Hicon GTs to arrive. Zenders are ready to rock.

However... My mate cooked it (never lend your car to a chef haha). It threw the accessory belt and he didn't pay attention to the temp, kept driving and it stopped.

So i'm currently fixed the head off the spare engine to fit it. New 4 notch head gasket.. Re ring it.. Happy days. While it's dead i'll pull off the injector pump and replace the spring with the original.. Hopefully it stops it surging.

We had the head off and down to the reconditioner in 45 mins. Not really that big of a job, you just have to read the manual and make sure you do everything right.
